David Brower

Biography:
David was considered one of the best environmental leaders and he also had the greatest global impact. David was also nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize. He was born on July 1, 1912 in Berkeley, California and he died november 5, 2000. He became an editor at the University of California Press. He also was a lieutenant before during world war two he was in the 10th mountain division, he also trained soldiers for the 10th mountain division. He also trained people in cross country skiing. He became the first director of te Sierra club in 1952 and he held this post for 20 years he did alot for the Sierra club good and bad like he increased the membership, but then he also lost the clubs tax-exempt status by using the cub for political intrest. Then he was later thrown out of the club because of the bad things he caused to the Sierra club. David was also a antitechnology, anti-growth fanatic. then in 1991 the Christian Science Monitor reported: "when he is asked 'Are you still....' and the clock interrupts with 'Cuckoo' brower says, 'yes!' and starts laughing."
David described his profrssional career to E magazine:
"The Sierra Club made the Nature Conservancy look reasonable. I founded Friends of the Earth to make the Sierra Club look reasonable. Then I founded Earth Island Institute to make Friends of the Earth look reasonable. Earth frist! look reasonable."
As soon as you belive that "all technology should assumed guilty until prokven innocent," as david always does he makes perfect sense to make things better for an ever-shifting landscape of what position are "reasonable." He also help create several national parks like seashores north cascades, the redwoods, great basin, alaska, capecod, fire island.
In some books Trashing the planet and Environmental Overkill, Dixy Lee Ray found out hoe david brower happily placed his environmentalideas over the well-being of his fellow kind here are three quotes that david brower said
1. "Childbearing [should be] a punishable crime against society, unless the parents hold a government license... all potential parents [should be] required to use contraceptive chemicals, the government issuing antidotes to citizens chosen for childbearing."
2. "while the death of young men in war is unfortunate, it is no more serious than the touching of mountains and wilderness areas by humankind."
3. "Loggers losing their jobs because of spotted Owl legislation is, in my eyes, no different than people being out of work after the furnaces of Dachau shut down."
Background:
David brower had many diffrent jobs like former executive director, Sierra club; founder, Friends of the earth; founder, League of Conservation Voters; founder, Earth Island Institute most of these places he found himself.
