ALAN CHADWICK
July 27, 1909- May 25, 1980

"We are the living links in a life force that moves and plays around and through us, binding the deepest soils with the farthest stars."
Born and raised in England. British Naval Officer during WWII. Came to America in 1967. An esteemed member of the Ecology Hall of Fame. Learned from Rudolf Steiner's theory of biodynamic agriculture and was tutored by him his whole life. Was concerned with the healthy production of plants and developing gardening methods. Alan created his own gardening style; a mix between Steiner's method and the French Intensive method of gardening. By mixing these two styles he used raised beds, organic fertilizer and composting to produce more healthy plants. This was the first time this method had been introduced to America. His organic gardening technique helped lead to the organic push that has been made in recent years. Chadwick also wrote a book on his organic method called,
Performance in the Garden.
